Perfect weather for reading a new design guide or visiting a new Vail hotspot

READ

After following interior designer Shea McGee on Instagram for the past few years and purchasing various items through her thriving home design company, Studio McGee, I was thrilled to receive a copy of her long-awaited book, The Art of Home: A Designer Guide to Creating an Elevated Yet Approachable Home. It’s one of the most thorough and functional books on home design I’ve seen, with a guide to every room in the house, gorgeous photos of vignettes, and step-by-step instruction on how to apply high-end design to any project. But it’s the style guide in the back that is the most applicable part of the book for every homeowner or homeowner-to-be, including information on upholstery fabrics, pillow styling, rug construction and sizing, countertops, coffee table styling, lighting heights, how to hang artwork, and a complete resource on the most common paint colors and brands. I never knew how simple white paint could differ in so many ways! At $39.99, this heavy, well-constructed 400-page masterpiece on visual design and decorating is a deal beyond belief.

Experience

The former Cine Bistro in Vail’s Solaris development has been transformed into a one-of-a-kind entertainment venue called Chasing Rabbits—and it’s wild. Following an “Alice in Wonderland” theme, the 13,000-square-foot space offers unexpected twists and turns, with the signature rabbit symbolism scattered throughout the expansive space. Five experiences make up Chasing Rabbits, starting with the Restaurant, a take on modern Mediterranean cuisine in an elevated setting (do not miss the Charred Eggplant Dip with Chapati). The Library lounge is nestled between stacks of real books, serving elevated bites and dinner offerings (plus, it’s an intimate spot to host a private gathering). The Rabbit Hole is an upscale arcade with all of the requisite games, plus a menu serving childhood favorites and craft cocktails. Moon Rabbit is an Asian-inspired speakeasy with a dark, moody vibe and modern mixology. And finally, the Film House provides a cinema experience. All of this, plus live jazz, DJs, bingo, karaoke and screenings of the MET Opera, no wonder the buzz around this place is so loud. Chasing Rabbits, 141 East Meadow Drive, Vail
