A Renovated Landmark Boulder Home is Ready for New Owners

Built in 1954 for the nationally recognized photographer Sylvester Labrot, the home was designated a City of Boulder Landmark in 2008.  Local architect, Cheri Belz, was the mastermind behind the home’s renovation and addition.

Labrot House was designed by notable architect Hobart D. Wagener, and the red brick home features mid-century modern appeal with cantilevered overhangs and clerestory windows framing breathtaking mountain views of the nearby Flatirons. With exposed post and beam construction and an upward sloping butterfly roof, the home’s design is a perfect representation of the period.

The home’s interior open floor plan altogether lends itself to family gatherings and entertaining. A disappearing wall of glass in the main living area opens to allow seamless access to indoor-outdoor living and dining. The owner’s suite features vaulted ceilings, exposed brick, a spa bathroom, and a private terrace. “Labrot House is a one-of-a-kind, work-of-art residence with mesmerizing interiors and views,” says Firuzeh Saidi of the Firuzeh Saidi Group. “It is among the most progressive and innovative homes built in Boulder from 1940-1970 when each house was infused with the homeowner’s personality.” Its original owner attended the University of Colorado-Boulder and began freelancing as a photographer while still in college. Success happened for Labrot almost immediately and he became known for his photographs in Life, the Saturday Evening Post, and Ladies’ Home Journal. Labrot is also known for his work on billboards, greeting cards and smaller publications. His signature style included incorporating offset printing and painting in his work.

Staging of the Labrot House was done by woman-owned and operated Ivy Lane Home Staging, and the property is represented by Saidi, a local luxury real estate agent since 1979. The home’s asking price is $6.4 million.
