A Bright and Airy Contemporary Mountain Home
This Colorado home was transformed from drab to fab in Cascade Village

A tired, drab, 1980s mountain home was laid to rest to create this bright and inviting four-bedroom, five-bath, 3,500-square-foot gem in Vail’s Cascade Village.
“The clients wanted a comfortable, timeless, light, and airy space—similar to their Miami residence,” says Amy Casey, one of the owners and principal designers at Casey & Co. Interior Design. (Casey and Joanne Brutsch are partners and co-owners of the firm.)
The homeowners spend considerable time in Vail, so Casey designed a home that works for everyday living yet provides a vacation experience. Doing so required a top-to-bottom makeover.
Now, a large fireplace in the living room is the home’s centerpiece. It and other distinctive, organic materials serve as the platform for Casey’s overall design and color palette.
The result is an elegant and relaxing space that incorporates an inspired mix of colors, textures, finishes, and custom-made pieces. The project took approximately nine months to complete.
ENTRY
The dramatic, high-ceiling entry splits focus between the Gem Ring chandelier from Hammerton and a large original painting by Kcho (Alexis Leyva Machado), a contemporary Cuban artist. The floor is flagged sandstone, and the 100% wool rug was sourced from CPA by STARK in the Denver Design Center.
DINING ROOM
Taracea chairs surround a custom Zachary Petterson Collection dining table. The Made Goods Patricia Oval chandelier features three tiers of woven natural coco beads and gold metal, hanging from an oval frame. A NanaWall was added between the dining room and adjacent deck, which overlooks a large open meadow.
LIVING ROOM
The fireplace is crafted from hand-selected Austral Dream dolomite slabs, custom cut by Argento Marble LLC of Carbondale. The small Eero Saarinen table and Bertoia side chairs are from Knoll. The custom upholstery and coffee table were hand-crafted by the Zachary Petterson Collection. The white oak floors found throughout the home are by Arrigoni Woods.

KITCHEN
The kitchen is a study in cool. The custom cabinetry is of hand-finished white oak, which blends beautifully with the Odyssey White Dolomite countertops from The Stone Collection in Denver. The Wayne counter stools are from Milling Road/Baker, and the MAC pendant lights are designed by Michael Amato and sourced from Urban Electric. Perhaps the coolest aspect of the kitchen is the unusual glass mosaic tile “Leaf Be Bop” backsplash from Artistic Tile. The client also wanted the kitchen to integrate a separate bar area for entertaining; it is located to the left of the cooktop
