THE PROJECT Design team Mary Knape and Kelly Zibell tackle a 3,000-square-foot newly built penthouse condominium in the heart of Cherry Creek North.

THE VISION The homeowners, who spend their winters in Arizona, swapped their high-maintenance, 30-year-old home on Denver’s west side for a fresh start with a clean, modern feel. “It’s always fun when we have this type of carte blanche, starting with less rather than more,” Zibell says. “And fun for the homeowners too, to create such an aesthetically different vibe for them to live in.”

THE CHALLENGE “The biggest challenge was the couple’s opposing views on color,” Knape says. The design team kept the peace by incorporating a neutral palette of ivory, taupe and pewter on the walls, rugs and furniture. Bursts of color, inspired by the living room’s Emily Mason painting, come into play in fabrics and accessories.

THE RESULT “Almost every piece in their home is something special— high-quality, well-made and beautiful to look at,” Zibell says. The homeowners gush: “We feel so fortunate to have Mary and Kelly help us create such a beautiful and comfortable home.”
