Give Your Bathroom the Look and Feel of an Upscale Spa

Your bathroom, like every other space in your home, can use a bit of wow factor to turn the ordinary into an extraordinary environment. Houseplants that do well in humid, low, or medium light spaces offer a little zhuzh, creating a space that feels holistic and cleansing. There are several plant species perfectly suited to bathrooms that require only basic care. These are generally varieties that thrive in humidity. Since many bathrooms are windowless, low light plants are a great choice. 

“Ivy, ferns, philodendrons, and air plants are all low maintenance and tend to grow beautifully,” advises Denver’s City Floral Garden Center. English Ivy helps absorb the moisture and humidity in your bathroom ridding it of mildew and mold. A trailing plant, English Ivy creates an elegant look. Philodendrons are also trailing plants. With their larger leaves, they offer a bit of drama in rich shades of light and dark green.

Eucalyptus and Aloe plants do very well in warm, humid settings and are known for their medicinal benefits. Eucalyptus offers a distinctive, fresh scent reminiscent of a day at a luxury wellness retreat. Aloe plants can be used by extracting the juice from the leaves and applying it to the skin to keep it healthy. Especially soothing for sunburn, the aloe plant has a reputation for healing.

Tropical plants will flourish in a space with a light source. If your bathroom has windows, consider the Peace Lily with blooms of white, a Lemon Lime Prayer Plant, a Majesty Palm, or a Pothos Plant which only needs watering when the soil is completely dry. Ferns are also great choices for medium light. Kangaroo and Boston Ferns love humidity and spread their leaves to offer a lively pop of green.

Another way to incorporate nature into your bath is a preserved living wall. Available in almost any size, a living wall contains green moss that is preserved at the height of its beauty. Requiring no water or sunlight, only an occasional dusting keeps your greenery virtually maintenance free and lends a Zen, harmonious touch to your space.

Silk plants are as beautiful as their live counterparts without any of the maintenance. Consider purchasing high quality, silk plants to liven up your bathroom space. Beck’s Silk Plant Co. points out that, “A huge variety of silks are available, and the difference is barely discernible.” No matter what you select, with just a little effort, you can use plants to create a stunning effect.
