The once-functional bathroom has gotten a makeover and has become a dream space for at-home wellness. The Colorado bathrooms featured in this story spotlight five trending styles—color, texture, tile, spa amenities and “it’s all in the details”—each of which achieves the functionality needed for everyday use, as well as providing a luxe space to indulge and unwind.

The homeowners of this skillfully crafted primary bathroom in Littleton had a few items on their wish list for their remodel, including a two-person steam shower and soaking bath. To fulfill those requests, the team at Christopher’s Kitchen & Bath knew a complete layout change was necessary. “We had to get creative for solutions and collaborate with the homeowners as well as all of the trades to bring our vision to life,” says designer Stanzie Lindaas.
The result is a luxurious, spa-like bath, featuring an asymmetrical vanity, glass-enclosed shower and repetitive geometric tile layout on a statement wall. “It is such a fun tile with all different pattern options, but the way it is laid out on the wall and spilling onto the floor is stunning,” says Lindaas.
Polished fixtures make a big impact on the serene space, and a mix of metals adds balance and warmth. “The crisp matte black hardware combined with the soft gold tones and walnut wood create a classic but exciting palette,” says Lindaas.

The homeowners of an exquisite Denver abode had a vision for their spare basement bedroom—transform the space into an in-home oasis. “After the pandemic, the clients realized that they would be more comfortable using a sauna at home instead of visiting their local spa,” designer Cecilia Tanoni explains. “We decided to work on a layout that would accommodate not only a custom sauna made of hemlock, but also a soaking tub, a complete shower system with body jets, a vanity area and WC, to create a whole spa experience.”
That experience was accomplished by using a simple materials palette, including walls and floors clad in Porcelanosa large-format tiles, creating the perfect backdrop for the ergonomically designed True Ofuro Japanese soaking tub. Towel warmer bars and a warming robe hook from Foursteel further enhance the spa experience. “By creating a minimal interior, we wanted this room to feel like a peaceful retreat, a kind of getaway built for relaxation, quiet contemplation and self-care.”

Once Gina D’Amore Bauerle of D’Amore Interiors finished updating the primary bedroom of a cozy 1990s Conifer log cabin, she knew a bathroom remodel was next. “The homeowners initially wanted to wait a year for the bathroom update but asked to start the remodel just a month later,” Bauerle explains.
The original bath was tiny and awkward, in need of a facelift. Bauerle immediately drew up some concepts, paying close attention to the homeowners’ must-haves—which included separate his-and-her vanities, a freestanding bathtub and a private water closet. “It was tricky, like a game of Tetris,” says Bauerle, “to create these areas with little space.”
With creative thinking and months of hard work, a spacious spa-like bath was achieved. A dreamy freestanding tub rests beneath a striking silver-leaf antler chandelier. Texture and shape abound in the handsome log walls, metallic black brick and white river-stone shower tile and agrestic floor tiles that resemble large barnwood planks.
The layers of color and texture establish a harmonious environment of understated luxury. “The homeowners love their new bath,” says Bauerle. “It feels like a modern mountain spa oasis.”

Sophisticated jewel tones inspired the design of this private sanctuary in Centennial. Stanzie Lindaas, designer at Christopher’s Kitchen & Bath, worked closely with the homeowner to infuse emerald green throughout the mindfully curated space. The rich shade of green is found on the cabinetry, accented by mixed brass and matte black metal fixtures. “Behind the beautiful and unique cabinet fronts is an abundance of functional storage for all different bathroom things,” says Lindaas.
Adding drama to the room, an airy walk-in shower is dressed in 3D-shaped wall tiles. “The 3D shapes of the wall tiles complement the pattern in the floor tile and have a nice gloss finish to subtly shine behind the matte shower fixtures,” Lindaas explains. Frosted glass panels cocoon the shower, ensuring privacy and allowing light to filter through.
A “glitzy textured wallcovering” cloaks the vanity area, where the homeowners enjoy getting ready for the day. “The homeowners’ style is full of modern elegance,” says Lindaas. “This was achieved in the overall design of the space.”

The impressive tile work in this Lafayette primary bath makes a bold statement throughout the intimate space. Stephanie Waddell of Istoria Interior Design mixed tiles of different colors and textures to create a multifaceted look. “This room illustrates how attention to unique details can yield an unexpected layered effect,” she says.
The distinctive kintsugi tile in the shower employs the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold lacquer. “I adore the moody green shower-surround tile,” Waddell explains. “The kintsugi tiles have thin gold lines running across them in random directions.”
A custom-designed walnut vanity with tambour door panels and a brass toe kick rests atop a glossy black marble mosaic floor tile. Grand views of the landscape are visible from the shapely freestanding tub. “My favorite feature is the mixture of the elements and what they create together,” says homeowner Blake Eilser. “Between the view and the bathroom itself, I don’t know what I enjoy more.”
