Former Denver Bronco, Bobby Massie, and his wife, Angel Massie, bonded over their mutual love and connection to conservation and the outdoors. “I grew up hiking and roaming the Blue Ridge Mountains,” says Angel. “Bobby was born in the foothills of the Virginia Blue Ridge Mountains and is a lifelong angler, hunter, and outdoorsman.”

With Angel’s career as a journalist, television producer and host, and Bobby’s decade-long career in the National Football League, the couple met via Facebook. Eventually, the online introduction led to a face-to-face meeting where they quickly discovered their shared passion for “all things outdoors.” Serendipity led to marriage, two children, and the launch of Wanderland Outdoors.

With a unique mission of making the outdoors accessible to all demographics through culturally competent excursions, the outfitter hosts guided fly fishing trips, mindful hiking experiences, trail rides, and more. Land leases throughout the state make destinations in Clear Creek County, Boulder County, Summit County, and Rocky Mountain National Park, plus additional Colorado locations, possible. The “Wanderland Way” combines a gold-standard extending from top-of-the-line equipment such as Bare Bones chairs, Simms waders, and Winston fishing rods with Bauer reels, to gourmet excursion meals featuring locally grown ingredients prepared by Chef Bobby Massie over sprawling cowboy grills.

Angel Massie is a trained meditation practitioner and Kripalu Certified Mindful Outdoor Guide who focuses on trauma-informed mindfulness using the beauty of nature for conscious awareness and cathartic contemplation. Wanderland Outdoors takes an inclusive approach by elevating guides of color to lead and encourage Black and Brown individuals, alongside those from diverse backgrounds to access and become comfortable with outdoor experiences.

Each family, corporate group, and individual excursion begins with an indigenous land acknowledgement, and focus on conservation is key to every journey. “Conservation and land preservation are crucial components of our program,” Angel emphasizes. “Our guides are Leave No Trace certified and can earn additional certifications funded by our program.”

Colorado Governor, Jared Polis, appointed Bobby Massie to the Greater Outdoor Colorado Trust Fund Board where he is involved in the Generation Wild program and serves on the Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) commission. Bobby and Angel are also making inroads by connecting with the Colorado philanthropic community through establishing contacts and exploring ways to work together. “A November 2024 excursion includes a Community Winter Feed by Fire, and a full 2025 schedule boasts adventure travel in Belize and Mexico,” says Angel.
